MagicQuartz 1.1 “Sparrow” Released

Merry Christmas 2024! I am excited to announce the release of MagicQuartz version 1.1 “Sparrow”. This update refines the core functionality of MagicQuartz but also introduces some exciting new features.

Key Updates and Features:

  • New ‘ClockTune’ Parameter: Fine-tune timing accuracy for hardware with lower clock precision, such as Arduino boards with ceramic resonators.
  • ‘ReducVoltage’ Parameter: New configuration options to reduce motor noise on turntables with synchronous motors. Reduced voltage can now also be toggled directly from the main screen for added convenience.
  • ‘SpeedRestore’ Parameter: Improved handling of potential speed drifts of asynchronous motors (due to warm-up), optimizing performance right from startup.
  • Improved Configuration Management: Automatic validation of configuration values ensures safe operation and, if needed, safe downgrades to version 1.1.
  • User Interface and System Optimizations: Tweaks to the interface and under-the-hood enhancements improve overall performance, improve screen output, and speed up firmware execution.

Availability
MagicQuartz 1.1 “Sparrow” is available now for download. Version 1.0 systems can be updated simply by flashing the new firmware.

New Video: MagicQuartz on Arduino

Here is a new video that many of you have been waiting for: How to get started with MagicQuartz using an Arduino development board. In this video I show how I low-pass filter the PWM signal from MagicQuartz, amplify it with an amplifier and transform the voltage to 220 V to drive my Dual 1219 turntable. Caution: This is quite dangerous and should only be done with the appropriate expertise. Please note the safety precautions in the video.
